Between 2012 and 2013 there were historic changes in travel habits in Gothenburg. The number of journeys by bike and public transport increased while the number of journeys by car fell. During this period the congestion charge was introduced. At the same time the public transport system grew and many other changes to the City’s infrastructure were made.
After 2013, changes have not been as large-scale. During 2015 cycle traffic fell by 3 per cent while public transport and road traffic rose by 1.5 per cent and 2.3 percent respectively.
Compared with 2011, the number of cycle trips has increased by 26% and use of public transport by 10 per cent, while the number of journeys by car is unchanged.
